Having completed the £1.2m outpatient facility in 2009, Paddock Johnson were commissioned to undertake the refurbishment of the inpatient, reception, café hub and nursing facilities in 2010. The scheme was aimed at providing modern, patient orientated facilities with assistive technologies and infection control compliant installations. Working alongside the nursing staff and operations director much dialogue was required to ensure that a full understanding of the project intentions were correctly communicated. Affordability became a key driver as did the need for a quality building with reduced maintenance costs.
Several innovative construction solutions were selected utilising best value analysis, such as homogeneous wall coverings to wet rooms, and integrated mood lighting. These elements were subject to a more rigorous selection process to ensure that they would not compromise the project programming, budget or delivery. This attitude to review was intrinsic within the team working methodology to maintain the ‘Right first time approach’.
We have also completed the ‘future Services Accommodation’ which forms the final phase of the facility upgrade. Utilising their own funds the current project of £900k will provide office and staff welfare accommodation.
