The scheme consists of new build apartments, amenity spaces and car parking on the former site of a pub. The completed development has created 28 no. affordable two bed apartments, within an existing residential neighbourhood of 1960’s houses and flats. The site is adjacent to local facilities and a play area. The homes are well located for connections to local transport routes including buses and the National Cycle Network. The design presents a feature on the prominent corner facing the shops and play area, and provides an improved purpose for the wider community to an otherwise vacant site.
Engagement through a community consultation process with local residents provided the opportunity for the design team to answer questions and agree amendments to the design to reflect the discussion that took place. The completed scheme has been popular with the local residents with many enquiring about renting the finished properties following the consultation process.
